Veterans

Congressman Yarmuth believes very strongly that the United States should be as committed to our heroes in uniform as they are to us. He understands the great sacrifice our troops make on a daily basis to protect us at home and abroad, and he is dedicated to seeing that our military personnel are protected and cared for during and after active duty.

Congressman Yarmuth helped pass the largest increase in veterans' health care funding in American history. To help deliver the highest quality health care for our veterans here at home, the Congressman recently secured $45 million for the construction of a new Veterans Administration (VA) Health Center in Louisville. He called on President Bush last year to include funding for the hospital in his Administration's budget. When the Administration failed to provide any money, Congressman Yarmuth successfully obtained funding for the Louisville VA through the House appropriations process.

Congressman Yarmuth was an original cosponsor of the recently enacted G.I. Bill for the 21st Century that will significantly increase educational benefits for our nation's recently returned veterans. He believes that a college education is critical to ensuring that our veterans have the chance to succeed and that it is our obligation to provide our service men and women every opportunity to succeed.
